Maple's Master Facelift

Let me just start out by saying we were very lucky when moving into our house. Of course, I mean for many reasons, but for the sake of this post, I'm talking paint colors. The previous owners had pretty good taste which meant not a lot of work for us. The paint throughout the house was livable and nothing we felt needed changing right away (with the exception of the red walls in the bonus room, but we took care of that pretty quickly with a little black and gold.) With that said, we still wanted to make this house our home so it was time to give the upstairs a bit of a facelift.

This is what our master bed room looked like before we moved in... a nice green color. You can see it works well with their bedding and the painting, but it just wasn't my style.

We settled on a nice blue/gray color we were both excited about. It is Autumn Fog by Valspar, love it! Joe started with the ceiling while I was at work. You can see he's the roller... I'm the trimmer so that wasn't done until the next day. And please notice how our trey (is that how you spell it??) ceiling makes for more angles, hence more trimming.

Bright and early Saturday morning we got to work. Seeing the color on the wall for the first time, we loved it. Which is good because at that point we had to keep going! Oh and don't worry, we took off the face plate around the light switches before painting around them.

Here are some after pictures to help you see the room. I love how the color shows up differently depending upon the light. We have 3 good sixed windows in our bedroom so we love to open the shades and let as much light in as possible.

And this picture shows the color nicely. I really like the blue/gray against the white trim. Oh and the lamps we spray painted the oil rubbed bronze work so well too.

We got (a little too) ambitious and decided to tackle not only the bedroom, but also the bathroom and closet. Here you can see the closet was pretty beat up. Holes were filled in, but not painted over. We don't know how some of the marks and scuff got there, but we said good-bye to them.

Step one was to move all the clothes from the closet. They ended up in the spare bathroom...

...and all three of the spare bedrooms. Good thing we have lots of extra closet space!

The closet didn't get the blue/gray color, but even with a fresh coat of white paint it made a huge difference! The small area got so much brighter.

And just for fun here are some shots once we got some clothes moved in.

And because I have to brag about my painting skills, I have to show the small areas we had to get creative on. Can you see the small areas between the door frames? Victory for Sara.

As for future projects or updates needed in Maple's Master? Here's the list I have in mind:
  • New curtains in bedroom (something white with a pattern maybe in navy blue?)
  • New curtains for bathroom (something simple, maybe sheer white curtains, they're just for looks, the window has blinds.)
  • New lamp shades (they need to be white to match the rest of the room. Maybe we can add a nice navy border too? Pinterest can help me with ideas here!)
  • New duvet cover for bed (sticking with the blue and white color scheme. I want to add more shades of blue also.)
  • I would love to add a bench at the end of our bed. I should start watching Craig's List for something like this.
