Cliff House

I feel like sometime this blog turns into a history lesson. At the same time I feel like I need to give a little background to help people understand why we go certain places.

The Cliff House is on the Pacific Ocean side of the city and is known as one of the best locations to watch the sunset. Our plan we to grab a drink, maybe an appetizer and witness this famous sunset. If you read my entry about Angel Island the other day, Saturday was super foggy. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to watch the sun because we couldn't see it through the clouds.

There are two fancy restaurants and two lounge areas to get drinks. We sat at the upper lounge right next to the window. The Anchor Steam and crab cakes were delicious. We decided to also order the chocolate and raspberry cheesecake. Yum!

To the north of the Cliff House is where the Sutro Baths once stood. Built by Adolf Sutro, the 24th mayor of San Francisco, they accommodated 25,000 bathers in both freshwater and seawater baths. Crazy to think something so European was once in California. This picture shows where the Sutro Baths once stood.

On the south side of the Cliff house is Ocean Beach that is 3 miles long. We want to make our way back to the western shoreline to walk the beach although the weather is definitely not warm enough to sunbathe.
One more thing to add to our San Francisco list!
